Lüül and Jens

got to know and appreciate each other in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic on Ulli Gellermann’s programme “Am Set”. Their great chemistry had consequences: apart from their time together with BasisBandBerlin, the pair have already been seen in various combinations with their solo programmes at concert evenings such as the Soli concerts for Julian Assange. They also share the stage in their big band “Der Wilde Ballon”. Now they are performing as a duo.

In the programme “Rückenwind”, which they have created together, the artists occasionally accompany one another. The musical journey spans the last two decades of their creative careers and repeatedly references current issues. In recent years, the pair have been committed to preserving culture and overcoming division through words and music. As with their trio project “Lyrischer Einspruch”, together with Tino Eisbrenner, all this serves the vital task of building bridges to bring people back together.

Lüül

His album *Der stille Tanz* was rightly awarded the German Record Critics’ Prize – a profound, melancholic work inspired by the pandemic, featuring lyrics that are by turns poetic and biting, yet free of sentimentality, and superbly performed and sung. After two decades with the 17 Hippies, he made a powerful statement on freedom of expression with “Ich bin die Freie Rede”, performed live at flash mobs during the coronavirus pandemic. He has also campaigned for the release of Julian Assange through concerts and his “Knastlied” on the “Free Assange Sampler”. For 50 years, he has been a unique figure straddling krautrock, world music and singer-songwriting.
